Directions
- Cut one each 40-1/2" x 60-1/2" rectangle from batting
& backing fabric. Cut two 2-1/2" x 36-1/2" strips ∓ two 2-1/2" x
60-1/2" strips from border fabric.
- Cut 4 blocks of each pattern A through O and label
them with masking tape temporarily. Cut the blocks per the dimensions
shown in diagram.
- Quilt top is made of 4 pieced quarter sections.
Referring to placement diagram, lay out blocks for each section on flat
work surface. Sew blocks together, right sides facing, using 1/4" seam
allowance.
- To assemble each quarter section, sew B to C, then
sew A, B/C and D together. Press seams to 1 side and set aside. Sew E to
H, F to I, F/I to J and G to K; sew these assembled blocks together.
Press seams to 1 side and set aside. Sew N to O, then sew N/O, M and L
together. Press seams to 1 side. Sew these 3 pieced sections together
and press seams to 1 side.
- Repeat to assemble 3 remaining quarter sections. Sew
sections together. Sew short border strips to short ends of pieced top.
Press seam allowances toward border strips. Repeat to sew long border
strips to long edge of pieced top. Press seam allowances toward border
strips.
- To assemble, place batting on flat work surface.
Place quilt top on batting, edges even, and pin in place. Baste top to
batting along edges; do not remove pins. With right sides facing and
edges even, pin quilt top to back fabric panel. Sew together, leaving 6"
opening for turning. Turn right side out and press edges. Slipstitch
opening closed. Remove pins and basting stitches.
- Place quilt on flat work surface to finish. Thread
embroidery needle with 6 strands of floss, leaving a long tail. Stitch
through all layers of quilt and back up at corner intersection of 2
blocks; knot floss in an overhand knot. Trim ends to 1". Repeat to make
as many tacks as desired to secure layers and prevent them from
shifting.
Finished size: 40" x 60"
Skill level: Some sewing and quilting experience
helpful.
