Items Needed to Crochet Your First Scarf

Medium Worsted Weight Yarn in the color of your choice. At least one skein or ball of yarn depending on the size of your scarf you may need more. Worsted weight yarn is easier to use for scarves and is more flexible than other yarns such as cotton.

Size H Crochet Hook – This size is one of the best for working with medium worsted weight yarn.

Scissors – Get a good pair of scissors to use only for your crochet projects!

Crochet Needle – This is optional. You can weave in tails and embellish your scarf.

Crochet an Easy Scarf Project

To crochet an easy scarf, gather up your supplies: a crochet hook, yarn, scissors, and a yarn needle. Once you have all of your supplies, now let’s crochet a scarf

Step 1: Chain the number of stitches needed for your scarf according to your pattern. This will depend on the size of the scarf you are making. You can make it as wide as you like, but for a standard scarf, try for at least 60 stitches.

Step 2: You can either Single or Double crochet (dc) in each stitch across the row. Make sure to work each stitch in the back loop only.

Step 3: Ch 1 at the end of each row. This will create a nice, even edge. Be sure to count your stitches.

Step 4: Continue to dc or sc in each stitch across the row until you have reached your desired length. Make sure to ch 1 at the end of each row.

Step 5: Once you have reached your desired length, fasten off (cut with scissors) and weave in your ends.
