If you love the Vanilla Strawberry Hydrangea and either have planted one of admired it in photos, there is a new variety of hydrangea this year that is an upgrade from the old one.  Berry White Hydrangeas have similar pink and white flowers, but their stems are stronger. This makes them less likely to flop over from the weight of the blooms. They also have a deeper, richer color in the fall that will add an interest to your garden even after the last days of summer fade.

Best Ways to Grow the Berry White Hydrangea

The Berry White Hydrangea grows the best in full sun (6 to 8 hours of direct sunlight each day) or part shade. It’s Hardy for zones 3-8, so it will survive in almost any part of the country. It can reach up to 6 or 7 feet tall and about 5 feet wide.

Typically, Berry White Hydrangeas start blooming like other hydrangeas in the mid-summer and lasting into the fall. The cluster of flowers will open up white and then turn dark pink, starting with the base of each cluster of flowers.

Best time to plant the Berry White Hydrangea is the spring before it starts growing or in late autumn when the plant goes dormant.  Although we have planted ours without an issue in May and June. Make sure to add compost to poor soil before planting. Dig a hole about twice the size of the container it came in and deep enough to fit the root ball. After filling in the soil be sure to water to help eliminate any air pockets.
